Cayman proposes ending newspaper adverts for work-permit applications
The 1 October proposal would retain at least 21 days of advertising on the WORC Jobs Portal and still required approval.
On 1 October 2026, the Cayman Islands’ employment and immigration minister proposed removing the requirement for employers to advertise vacancies in a local newspaper when applying for work permits. At least 21 days of advertising on the WORC Jobs Portal before filing would remain.[1]
The government’s parliamentary summary, published on 2 October, said the amendment was expected at the next parliamentary meeting in November. Employers would still have to meet recruitment and reporting duties and show fair consideration of Caymanian applicants. The proposal also envisaged a portal fee and a government-published weekly newspaper vacancy list, subject to approval.[1][2]
The statement describes a proposed amendment, not an operative advertising rule. Subsequent approval, final regulations and commencement remain unverified; the evidence does not establish that newspaper advertising has ended.[1][2]
