Germany rejects motion to retain 50,000 Western Balkans approvals

Motion 21/2248 was rejected on 4 November; the vote does not itself enact a reduced quota.

Germany · Quota-retention motion rejected

On 4 November 2026, Germany’s Bundestag rejected Green Party Motion 21/2248 on retaining the Western Balkans annual quota.[1]

The motion, dated 15 October 2025, asked the government to retain 50,000 employment approvals a year.[2]

In a statement dated 16 October 2026, the Federal Employment Agency opposed the government’s intended reduction to 25,000 from January 2027.[3]

Rejecting a motion addressed to the government does not itself establish that a reduced quota has become law.[1][2]
