Hong Kong New CIES account rule applies to net-asset applications from November

The Net Asset Assessment filing date controls applicability; buying financial assets elsewhere and transferring them in does not meet the rule.

Hong Kong SAR · Account rule applies

Under Hong Kong’s New Capital Investment Entrant Scheme, financial assets bought through non-designated accounts do not count towards the investment assessment for applicants who submit Net Asset Assessment applications on or after 1 November 2026. The Net Asset Assessment filing date determines applicability.[1]

For these applicants, transferring assets into a designated account after buying them elsewhere does not satisfy the requirement. Financial assets counted towards the investment must be transacted through the scheme’s designated accounts and meet the other investment conditions.[1]

Investment FAQ 7 sets out the requirement but does not state when this update was first published.[1]
