Ireland delays employment-permit portal reopening; renewal flexibility remains
The 2 November update confirms the portal will not reopen on 3 November. Existing applications continue; alternative arrangements for new submissions are still being prepared.
Ireland’s Department of Enterprise, Tourism and Employment confirmed on 2 November 2026 that the Employment Permits Online System would not reopen on 3 November as previously expected. Reopening depends on security measures, testing and independent assurance; no replacement date was announced.[1]
Applications received before the outage continue to be assessed and decisions are issuing. Alternative arrangements for new submissions are being prepared, rather than already open.[1]
The department’s 29 October notice provides appropriate assessment flexibility for renewals and Labour Market Needs Test advertising affected by the outage. It also addresses drafts and applications awaiting payment that exceed the usual 28-day submission period.[1]
These are application-processing measures, not an automatic extension of an employment permit or immigration residence permission. Applicants must distinguish the permit process from their individual residence status and expiry dates.[1]
