Japan sets Indonesia TB-screening timetable and January certificate requirement

October diplomatic notices set out the 2 November screening timetable, with certificates required from 4 January 2027.

Japan · Screening requirement announced

Japan’s embassy in Indonesia said on 5 October 2026 that registration for pre-entry tuberculosis screening at designated clinics would open on 2 November. The Surabaya consulate’s 26 October notice lists that date as the start of screening. Both notices require covered applicants to submit a TB-clearance certificate with Certificate of Eligibility or visa applications from 4 January 2027.[1][2]

The requirement generally covers Indonesian nationals planning medium- or long-term residence, plus designated-activities categories 53 and 54 for digital nomads and their families. Re-entry-permit holders and people whose government-issued residence documents establish residence outside the targeted countries or regions are exempt. The notices also list temporary exemptions for specified exchange, training, study and work programmes; the Surabaya notice of 26 October includes specified skilled workers.[1][2]
