South Africa plans asylum intention-registration platform by 10 November
The 11 October official reports set a target, not a verified launch; a registration receipt will not confer refugee status.
South African government news service SAnews reported on 11 October 2026 that Home Affairs plans a phased asylum intention-registration and appointment platform by 10 November. The proposed process would record personal and biometric details, issue a receipt and schedule a Refugee Reception Office appointment, with assisted registration available.[1][2]
The receipt would document an intention to seek asylum. It would not be a section 22 visa or recognition of refugee status. This is an October implementation plan: the present review has not obtained official confirmation that the platform is operational.[1]
