South Africa consults on moving refugee reception services to Beitbridge
The 30 October statement confirms a consultation, not an implemented office closure.
South Africa’s migration committee confirmed on 30 October that Gazette 55655 proposes closing the Tshwane refugee reception office, establishing an office at Beitbridge and requiring specified categories of asylum seekers to report there. The proposals are subject to public consultation.[1]
The statement does not establish an immediate closure or a reporting duty for all applicants. The committee says affected people will receive implementation, transition and documentation details, and that the proposals do not change their legal protections.[1]
