UK Global Talent: Preparing Your Digital Technology Evidence
A digital technology endorsement application needs to show what you did, what changed as a result and how that experience meets the criteria. A clear account of your contribution is more useful than a large collection of documents with little explanation.
Choose the category your record supports
Digital technology applicants may seek endorsement as an established leader, known as exceptional talent, or a potential leader, known as exceptional promise. Both require relevant recognition within the previous five years and additional qualifying achievements. The government says promise applicants are likely to have less than five years’ technology experience, though they may have a longer career in another field.[2]
Consider the achievements you can substantiate, rather than choosing by age or total years in work. A career changer can explain how earlier experience informs current work. An established professional needs evidence appropriate to the level of achievement claimed.
The visa route does not require a job offer, minimum salary or English test, but the digital technology endorsement has specific eligibility criteria.[1] Other Global Talent fields, including arts and research, have their own requirements.
Give every document a purpose
Alongside the core recognition requirement, applicants must meet at least two additional criteria. These cover innovation, contributions outside normal work, contributions to product-led digital technology businesses, or qualifying research. The detailed tests differ between talent and promise; use the current rules for the chosen category.[4]

For example, rapid growth in a company’s users does not by itself explain one engineer’s contribution. Identify the feature they worked on, their period of responsibility and verifiable results linked to that work. When quoting figures, explain the period and method of comparison so that the numbers tell a consistent story.
Choose referees who know your work
The current rules require three letters from different established digital technology experts who have known your work for at least 12 months.[4] The guidance also asks each letter to use different examples and to be written specifically for the Global Talent application.[3]
Alongside a referee’s professional standing, consider how well they understand your contribution. Someone who can explain a technical decision, product achievement or industry collaboration can provide a specific, supported assessment. Each letter should have its own substance, rather than repeating the same account under a different signature.
Use the ten-document limit carefully
You may submit up to ten eligibility-evidence documents, each no longer than three A4 pages. At least two must support recognition as a leader or potential leader, with at least two for each of two additional criteria. The same evidence cannot be used for more than one criterion. The CV and three letters are outside the ten-document limit; the CV has its own three-page limit.[3]
A working index can record each document’s date, source, relevant contribution and intended criterion. Check that you may disclose company information and include enough context for the reader to understand the figures. Applicants who have been founders or senior executives in the past five years must also provide evidence of their connection to the business in line with the official guidance.[3]
Endorsement and the visa are separate applications. They can be made together, or the visa application can follow a successful endorsement. If applying afterwards, you must apply within three months of receiving the endorsement letter from the Home Office.[5] Applying for endorsement does not itself extend existing UK permission to stay.[1] Check immigration deadlines while preparing the evidence, leaving time for the steps that follow.
