Australia sets offshore rule for Training visa applications from 12 November
Regulations registered on 30 October change application and grant locations. Earlier valid applications retain the previous rules.
Australia registered the Training Visas Application Requirements Regulations on 30 October 2026. For subclass 407 applications made from 12 November, applicants generally must be outside Australia both when applying and at grant. The regulations retain ministerial specified-class exceptions. The grant-location exception depends on membership of a specified class when applying, and does not allow grant during immigration clearance.[1]
Home Affairs warns that an onshore application covered by the new rule may be invalid even if ImmiAccount accepts it. An offshore application does not provide a linked Bridging visa. Applicants should check their current visa expiry and approved sponsorship and nomination before travelling.[2]
Valid applications lodged before 12 November remain assessed under the rules in place when they were lodged. Applicants must still meet the other visa requirements; submitting an application does not guarantee a grant.[1][2]
