Barbados immigration and citizenship bills pass the House and reach the Senate stage

The bills passed the House on 27 October. Later histories confirm Senate passage on 4 November and give 28 October for notice; commencement remains unconfirmed.

Barbados · Senate passage recorded

Barbados Parliament’s official histories record that the Immigration Bill, 2026 and the Barbados Citizenship Bill, 2026 passed the House of Assembly on 27 October 2026 before proceeding to the Senate.[1][2]

Update on 3 November: the two histories give 29 October for Senate notice, but items 3 and 4 of Order Paper No.15, prepared for the scheduled 4 November sitting, give 28 October and list motions for first reading. The reviewed documents do not explain the date difference, so this report does not select either date as definitive. Scheduled business does not establish that first reading has occurred.[1][2][3]

The bills were introduced earlier: both histories show House notice on 24 April, first reading on 29 April and first appearance in the Official Gazette on 5 May. This report concerns their additional legislative progress in October.[1][2]

When checked on 3 November, the two histories listed the Senate as the current stage, without recording Senate passage, completed enactment or commencement. They do not establish that a new residence or citizenship route has opened. Unverified thresholds, eligibility provisions and transitional arrangements are not reported here.[1][2]

Later development: when checked on 5 November, both histories recorded Senate passage on 4 November and Senate notice on 28 October, matching the order paper. The discrepancy described above reflects the earlier records and is no longer present in the current histories. Neither history supplies an assent or commencement date. The subsequent Senate-passage report covers this development.[1][2]
