Belize proposes investor-residence route; qualifying period needs clarification
Official explanations describe an investor-and-family route but differ on the qualifying period for permanent residence.
Belize’s immigration department reported the minister’s investor-residence proposal to the House on 2 October. It envisages qualifying investment, genuine business activity, eligible family members and a revised physical-presence arrangement for progression to permanent residence.[1]
The House account gives a 2.5-year qualifying period; another official explainer gives 3 years. Both describe 1 year of cumulative presence. Neither timetable should be presented as an operative guarantee, nor the proposal as an open programme, without authoritative legislation and consistent implementation guidance.[1][2]
