Czech residence bill passes the Senate and reaches the President

The legislative record confirms referral for signature, not that new rules already apply.

Czechia · Senate approved; sent to the President

The Chamber of Deputies’ current record shows that residence Bill 144 passed the Senate on 21 October and reached the President for signature on 27 October, with presidential consideration possible until 11 November. This verifies the legislative stage, not promulgation or commencement.[1]

The Interior Ministry describes digital residence procedures, stronger registration and residence-cancellation mechanisms, and mandatory registration for EU citizens. It previously anticipated commencement on 1 January 2029, subject to completion of legislation. The bill does not concern asylum or temporary protection.[2]

Subsequent development, 4 November 2026: The Chamber’s legislative record confirms that the President signed bill 144 that day and that the decision reached the Chamber on the same date. Promulgation and commencement dates remain unverified.[1]
