The proposal changes permanent-residence and family-reunification conditions; it is not verified as operative law.

Iceland · Cabinet-approved bill proposal

Iceland’s Justice Ministry said on 27 October that cabinet had approved a residence-permit bill. It proposes increasing the general residence period for permanent permission from 4 to 6 years and requiring applicants to have no debts to public bodies.[1]

For family reunification, the proposal extends cohabitation from 1 to 2 years, requires both partners to be at least 24 when permission is granted, and requires adequate family housing. Parliamentary passage, commencement and pending-case transitions were not verified; these proposals should not be applied as current rules.[1]
