Lithuania restricts in-country work and undergraduate residence applications
From 1 November, eligibility to lodge certain residence applications inside Lithuania depends on immigration status, with stated exceptions.
A Migration Department notice, published on 15 October and updated on 29 October, sets out changes from 1 November. Non-EU, non-Schengen nationals cannot lodge ordinary work or bachelor’s residence applications inside Lithuania solely on a Schengen visa or another country’s national visa; they must use the designated overseas VFS Global channel.[1]
Lawfully present applicants remain eligible to lodge with valid Lithuanian temporary residence, a Lithuanian national visa, another EU or Schengen state’s residence permit, or visa-exempt stay. This does not guarantee approval.[1]
Highly skilled applications retain their existing procedure. Replacement applications for existing employment residence permits also retain the requirement for a valid permit with no more than six months remaining.[1]
