Malaysia pauses DE Rantau new applications ahead of 4-year renewal framework

MDEC has announced a November pause for new applications and a 1 December reopening under a conditional renewal framework allowing up to 4 years in total.

Malaysia · New applications paused; enhanced framework due on 1 December

Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) announced on 29 October 2026 that new DE Rantau Nomad Pass submissions would pause from 1 to 30 November. New applications are scheduled to resume on 1 December under an enhanced framework.[1]

The framework, effective on 1 December, provides a renewal pathway allowing eligible holders to stay for up to 4 years in total. That total includes the initial pass and approved renewals; it is not a 4-year entitlement for each renewal. Continued eligibility and approval remain necessary.[1]

Eligible first-time renewal applications will continue to be accepted and processed during the transition. Applicants should distinguish the temporary closure for new submissions from the arrangements for renewals.[1]
