Swedex examinations will cease from 31 December 2026
The Migration Agency confirms the examination ends from 31 December; the citizenship language requirement remains.
Sweden’s Migration Agency says Swedex examinations will no longer be available from 31 December 2026. Its citizenship guidance currently lists Swedex as one way to demonstrate Swedish proficiency during the transition.[1]
Cessation of the examination does not remove the citizenship language requirement. Other evidence listed by the agency includes recognised Swedish-language course grades, the highest SFI course and Tisus results. The agency says it will explain whether another test can replace Swedex in 2027.[1]
The official page does not identify the first announcement date or state that existing Swedex results automatically become invalid on 31 December. Acceptance of a result remains subject to the Migration Agency’s applicable requirements.[1]
