The official São Tomé and Príncipe citizenship programme FAQ says physical residence or relocation is not required during or after the application. It also requires applications to begin through a licensed marketing agent and confirms that applicants undergo due diligence.[1]

For a family not planning an immediate move, the practical question is whether it can retain its current arrangements while supplying documents, cooperating with checks and meeting payment conditions. This article reflects official pages checked on 15 October 2026.

No residence requirement does not mean no documentation

The eligibility page requires an adult principal applicant, legitimate funding evidence and successful due diligence. Complete, accurate documents matter: omissions or inaccuracies can delay an application or lead to rejection.[2]

Consequently, “no residence” should not become a promise of approval without funding or background checks. Ask the agent to identify evidence appropriate to the actual source of money before arranging payment.

Approval in principle precedes the fund contribution

The National Transformation Fund page places the qualifying donation after approval in principle. Submission, background checks, provisional approval and the final citizenship grant remain distinct stages.[3]

Obtain a written schedule covering documents, additional-information requests, payment conditions and document delivery. Confirm any personal signature, original-document or identity-verification requirements in the specific instructions. An absence of residence requirements does not establish that every formality can be completed without the applicant’s involvement.

Family additions and onward travel need separate planning

Eligible relatives may be included, but future additions remain subject to applicable fees and due diligence.[1] Update the file and quotation when the household changes.

Likewise, a citizenship programme’s residence policy does not establish entry or residence rights in another country. Assess destination requirements separately when planning travel or a later move.
