Why replacing a lost Grenadian passport can cost different amounts
Check the old passport’s expiry date before choosing a replacement category.
The Beijing embassy’s schedule distinguishes expiry status and age. Passport application fees exclude delivery and other applicable expenses.
A lost or damaged Grenadian passport does not attract one universal replacement fee. The embassy in Beijing distinguishes passports that remain valid from those already expired, and then separates applicants by age.[1]
Expiry status and age shape the fee
| Beijing embassy category | Ages 0–17 | Age 18 or over |
|---|---|---|
| Valid passport lost, stolen or damaged | USD 500 | USD 700 |
| Expired passport lost or damaged | USD 250 | USD 350 |
These are published passport application fees, excluding delivery, notarisation and other actual costs. The page lists five-year validity for children and ten years for adults.[1] Confirm local delivery charges with the mission that will receive the application.
Explain the loss and establish the identity
The Beijing embassy provides a dedicated report form for lost, stolen or damaged passports.[2] A report explains what happened to the document; citizenship and civil-status records serve a different purpose. One does not replace the other.
The Washington embassy’s replacement instructions expressly require a police report or report number and a notarised affidavit.[3] For another mission, establish the acceptable police record, translation and witnessing arrangements before sending the file. Mailing and payment instructions from one jurisdiction should not be assumed to apply worldwide.
Check the file before posting originals
A retained copy of the old passport’s data page can help establish its number and expiry date. Assemble a consistent account of when and where it was lost and what steps have already been taken. Keep scans of originals before using the receiving mission’s required delivery method.
If travel is approaching, tell the mission the intended date and route. Ordinary replacement, emergency documentation and acceptance by a transit country require separate confirmation. Paying a replacement fee does not secure a particular departure date.
The fees and instructions were checked on 23 October 2026. This is an explanation of the available official guidance, not an announcement that fees changed that day.
