Leaving Malaysia’s MM2H programme: how to release the remaining fixed deposit
Releasing the remaining deposit involves both pass cancellation and the bank. Programme termination, a dependant’s cancellation and a permitted partial withdrawal follow different procedures.
Pass cancellation is followed by a termination letter and a bank withdrawal request. The booklet’s 3-working-day termination charter is not a transfer guarantee.
An MM2H participant seeking the entire remaining fixed deposit should arrange programme termination and pass cancellation before asking the bank to release the funds. MOTAC’s current FAQ requires a termination letter from the MM2H One Stop Centre, submitted to the deposit bank with a withdrawal request.[1]
That is a different transaction from a permitted partial withdrawal while remaining in the programme. For a family leaving Malaysia, immigration status, bank processing and the next lawful basis of stay need to fit the same timetable.
Decide whose participation is ending
The FAQ directs termination applications to the MM2H One Stop Centre at MOTAC in Putrajaya. Its basic list covers passports, existing passes, the principal’s termination request and the approval letter. A dependant may cancel separately while the principal retains MM2H, subject to the required request and approval.[1]
The application booklet adds deposit evidence and, where applicable, departure or alternative-pass documents. Its 3-working-day service charter starts from a complete termination submission.[2] It is not a promise that money will reach another bank within that period.
Connect the cancellation to the bank request
After cancellation, obtain the termination letter and submit it with the withdrawal request.[1] The Immigration Department also lists a termination letter among the documents for this stage.[3] Confirm the bank’s submission channel, attendance requirements and transfer details in advance. Such preparation does not replace either authority’s assessment.
A later return is a new application
MOTAC allows former participants to apply again, under the criteria then in force.[1] Termination therefore should not be treated as a pause that preserves the original admission terms.
This article concerns the federal programme. State schemes and older approvals require their own checks. The Immigration Department page also contains historical deposit figures; only its termination-document guidance is used here.[3]
