How golden visa employees claim UAE unemployment insurance

A golden visa and unemployment insurance serve different purposes. The claims guide waives one residence document, while the remaining eligibility tests still apply.

A UAE golden visa does not automatically produce unemployment insurance compensation or create a blanket subscription exemption. Involuntary Loss of Employment insurance, or ILOE, turns on the employment category, insurance record and reason for losing work. The claims guide gives golden visa holders a specific exemption from providing a residence-cancellation document.[1][3]

Establish the employment category first

The government describes coverage for private-sector and federal-government employees, subject to exclusions. Its investor exclusion concerns owners who work in their own businesses. Holding a property-based golden visa is therefore insufficient by itself to classify employment with another business as exempt.[1]

Check the actual employer, contractual position and policy together. The residence category helps explain residence documentation but cannot answer the employment-insurance question on its own.

Cover and the reason for dismissal both matter

The policy requires at least 12 consecutive months of subscription, premiums paid as agreed and unemployment other than resignation or disciplinary dismissal. A claim normally has to be submitted within 30 days of termination; the policy separately addresses the settlement of a labour complaint referred to the judiciary. Lawful residence and other eligibility conditions also apply.[2]

Having purchased a policy and qualifying for this particular claim are distinct assessments. The termination document should identify the date and reason clearly. A golden visa does not turn a voluntary resignation into an insured dismissal.

Which document is waived for golden visa holders?

Page 58 of the insurer’s claims guide lists golden visa holders among those exempt from the residence-cancellation document. The same page exempts only UAE nationals from the entry-and-exit report requirement; it does not extend that exemption to golden visa holders.[3]

Check the evidence required for the actual claim category, including termination, wage and insurance records, entry-and-exit information and relevant work-permit documents. Do not cancel a valid golden residence simply to satisfy a generic upload field. Ask the insurer how to handle a field that does not apply.

Benefits use basic salary and have limits

The policy uses 60% of average basic salary over the six months before unemployment, for a maximum of three months per claim. Monthly caps are AED 10,000 and AED 20,000 for the two categories. A total remuneration package including housing or travel allowances is not automatically the basic salary.[2]

The government also specifies presence in the UAE and explains that re-employment affects continued payment.[1] Review travel plans alongside the policy history, termination date and wage breakdown, instead of relying solely on the continuing validity of residence.
